Why baptism?
Thinking about whether baptism is your next step?
Jesus himself was baptized and therefore we believe that baptism is an important step when you entrust your life to Jesus. Baptism is a public confession of three things:
- You follow Jesus
- You want to start a new life
- You are part of a new family
What does baptism mean?
Here are a few thoughts on what baptism means here at the Pfimi:
We believe in a God who loves you unconditionally and wants you to flourish. He desires a trusting relationship with you. To achieve this, it is important to get to know Jesus as the Son of God and to make a conscious decision to live with him.
This decision for Jesus can have different effects depending on how many “keys of your house of life” you symbolically hand over to Jesus. In other words, how much you let Jesus into your life, give him a say in your everyday life and implement God’s ideas in your life.
Baptism is now a visible sign of your decision to hand over “all the keys” to Jesus. You are expressing that you want to follow Jesus with everything you are, leave your old life behind and start a new life with him.
The Bible says this in Colossians 2:12:
“For through baptism your old life is ended; you were buried with Christ. But you have also been raised with him to a new life …” .
What does baptism do?
If you align your life completely with God’s ideas, this will have an impact on you and those around you: You will find out more and more what God has in store for you in individual areas of life and in your respective phases of life, how he carries you through or even challenges you to trust him and take a step of faith. Then nothing will stand in the way of your adventure with God.
Baptism and active church life belong together. You are no longer on your own, but part of the family of God and specifically part of a local church.
